FIESTA FOURS HAD EVERYTHING
After the reinstated Fiesta Fours competition lying dormant for many years this meeting had everything about it. With teams from Hull, Sheffield, Coventry, East Park, Birmingham and Wednesfield, racing was out of the top draw.
In round one, Hull came out on top with 44 points, from Birmingham 39 points, East Park 36 points. The second round saw Wednesfield take the win on 46 points from Sheffield 41 points, Coventry on 32 points.
So in the main final, team one was Hull, team two Sheffield, team three Wednesfield while the Consolation Final lined up, team one Coventry, team two East Park, team three Birmingham.
With this competition running on a pairs formula, it bought the
best out of the pairings Hull started off well with a 7-3 over Sheffield, but by heat six Wednesfield were drawing level with Hull on 22 points, Sheffield 16 points. By heat 11 both teams were on 39 points with Sheffield on 32 points - yes it was going to the wire.
Wednesfield on grids one and three with Aris and Griffiths while Andy Angell was on two and Ben Swansborough on four. Wednesfield raced into a 6-4 with Andy Angell trying everything to get passed Lee Aris, coming down on the last lap, feeling he had been done out of it. Referee Albert Bentley was having none of it, so Wednesfield came over the line on a 7-2 and Angell was not a happy man. So it ended Wednesfield winners on 46, Hull 41, Sheffield 32. Sheffield's Jono Birks was in a class of is own, his gating out of this world.
In the Consolation Final, East Park took the honours on 46 points with a good win over Bimingham on 39 and Coventry on 34.
Organiser Roger Ellis was delighted with the turn-out and the day's racing.
"Everybody went home with some of the best trophies on show at a cycle speedway match. I'd just like to thank everybody who helped on the day, Dash Trophies, helpers and refs" said Roger.
