Christine Ellis Memorial Individual Classic 2009

Well as the title suggests this individual event was a real classic with 40 heats of top class cycle speedway racing from all of the competitors, with the winner Lee Aris just dropping 2 points over ten races.

The first four opening race winners were Marcus Wadhams,Lee Aris,Mark Griffiths and Chris Jewkes and after all the riders had taken two rides each the front runners were Marcus wadhams 8pts,Chris Jewkes 8pts and Lee Aris 7pts with jewkes last years winner just holding off the challenge of Lee Aris.

By the halfway stage after 20 heats we had two riders really standing out Lee Aris & Chris Jewkes having just dropped one point each on 19 points the closest others Wadhams on 16 & Terry Norman 15, the racing had been fast and furious and there had been several spills and restarts with Mike Morgans receiving a exclusion at the tapes in his first race then a win and then three non-finishes after a few bad spills and had to pull through injury.

The second stage of the meeting began after the Junior Easter Trophy had been run,
And it was a case of who would maintain their performances from the first half well early pace setter Lee Aris continued with another win but Chris Jewkes was first to drop points when he missed the gate in his first race after the break and came in third, Chris then dropped further points in his next race coming in last with the win going to Chris Timms also beating Lee Aris in this same race with Terry Norman third,

Chris Timms stood out in this second half with five race wins and jewkes and Aris continued their winning ways with another 3 race wins each and another rider came really close to being on the rostrum was Lee Smith who just missed out in what was effectively a run off in heat 39 with Timms when there was just two riders due to casualties after some fearsome racing had taken its toll on two more of the field with Dave Carmichael missing his last four rides after a bad knee injury and also Russ Evans missing his last races as well.

The riders were all presented with trophies on the centre green from Roger Ellis and his family Tanya, Shawn and Kirsty.
