Sandwell v Wednesfield - Midland League

2009-07-21 15:03 by Spokesman

LIONS HOLD ALL THE ACES

On Sunday afternoon (19 July), after a nice sunny morning, the rain started to fall at 1pm, and the two teams deserve a pat-on-the-back, just for getting on a bike and having a go. In the heavy rain, racing was really difficult, and it was mainly the first from the gate, stood the best chance, but both teams did try very hard, with Sandwell coming out winners by 101 points to Wednesfield's 76.

Sandwell started with a 6-4 from Lee Smith and Jim Palmer, with two of the next three heat being drawn, by the halfway stage Sandwell had moved into a 12 point lead. Still with the rain pouring down, it was decided to try and finish the match, as just staying on the bike was becoming so hard. Sam Smith and Chris Jewkes did their best to keep Wednesfield in the match, but Sandwell second strings seem to cope with the conditions better than the visitors and Sandwell slowly pulled away to finish with a twenty seven points lead.

In the conditions, it was decided to postpone the second team, and Wednesday night is the new date for that meeting, and hopefully the weather god will shine on Sandwell that night.
